Sibyl Vane was Dorian Gray's first love. Dorian first saw her performing the role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. The two quickly fell in love. After a month of courtship Dorian brought Henry Wotton and Basil Hallward to see Sibyl's performance as Juliet. Unfortunately, her relationship with Dorian showed her what love truly felt like, destroying her ability to pretend to love. Dorian was humiliated by her horrible performance and after the play he told Sibyl in a fit of rage that he did not want to marry her. Later that night Sibyl Vane commited suicide.
